BACKGROUND
Acoustic neuroma also known as vestibular schwannoma is one of the
intracranial tumor that commonly arises from schwann cells sheath which
invested on vestibular nerve or cochlear nerve. It is the most frequent benign
tumor found at cerebello-pontine angle. Symptoms usually one sided hearing loss
which patients will suffer from ear ringing (tinnitus), dizziness, nystagmus
(rapid eye movement) and vertigo, including feel pain in jaw area. A
retrospective review on the incidence of acoustic neuroma by Philip R et al.
(2009), out of 27 cases conducted in PPUM from 2001 till 2006, 74.1% were above
the age of 50 years, while mean age was 56.4 years old. In clinical settings,
there are many examinations requested to study this disease. Therefore, this
appraisal is definitely to identify the best imaging modalities in acoustic
neuroma.
